The FUND & RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT Category Team

Here's how this category got from the raw community feedback (in September of last year) to the current state as goals for the next Long Range Plan:

How an idea becomes a goal-click for larger version
How an idea becomes a goal-click for larger version

A word of caution

As you read the goals and strategies in these categories, please keep a few things in mind:

  1. This is a work in progress. These are not finished documents, and should not be taken to represent the completed Long Range Plan. These goals simply represent where we currently are in the process. If an element crucial to you seems to be missing, please email the visioning team with your concerns. We're human, and we may well have missed something.
  2. These goals represent the distillation of months of work, and an incredible amount of information. The lists contained here are not meant to be complete, but are simply representative of greater content with which the teams are currently working. As before, if something is missing, please let us know, but please don't think we've intentionally left out something important to you. It's a work in progress, and we look forward to sharing the whole thing with you when it's complete. If you're concerned about the direction in which we're headed... Get involved!

Now, with that said...

The Goal

Securing ongoing financial support that both meets immediate needs and creates a margin for excellence.

The Strategies

  • Hire human resources, such as development director and team.
  • Draft a strong financial plan and backup plans (perhaps in Governance rather than this category?)
  • Identify and cultivate prospects and donors outside CWS, including foundations, corporations and individuals.
  • Create infrastructure to support a development program, including:
    • data management technology for donor tracking and accounting.
  • Establish a separately incorporated CWS Foundation with the main pupose of building endowment, reducing financial burden on families (?) and supporting creation of a permanent home for the school.
  • Establish policies and procedures to determine allocation of dollars raised. (This identification process is the responsibility of the faculty and board, not the development team.)
  • Write a Case for Support for CWS, to include:
    • Individual cases for support for specific campaigns and programs written on a case-by-case basis, pulling key material from the CWS Case.
  • Create a comprehensive development program including annual giving (Children's Campaign), events (Gala), major gifts, planned giving, capital campaign, direct mail, grant writing, corporate sponsorships, and donor recognition.
  • Create a CWS Alumni Association (this is shared with Community Life)
  • Foster a culture of philanthropy and an expectation of giving within the CWS Community.
